May 16, 2011 “National Police Memorial Week”
"On Monday, May 16, 2011, the Melbourne Police Department held a ceremony at police headquarters in honor of National Police Memorial Week to recognize all police officers who have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty. A wreath was placed on the Department's memorial monument by our Honor Guard and a moment of silence was held in honor of fallen Melbourne Police Officer Joseph Pelicano, who died in the line of duty on October 17, 1986. The Melbourne Police Foundation donated the memorial to the Melbourne Police Department for last year’s Police Memorial ceremony and we are very thankful." - Police Chief Mimbs
